Marion Wesley McDonald

Marion Wesley McDonald, 89, of Saint Petersburg, Fla., and seasonal resident of Deep Gap, died Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013.
He was born Dec. 3, 1923, in Mulberry, Fla. and moved to St. Petersburg in 1927. He attended local schools and graduated from Saint Petersburg High School in 1941.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in North Africa and Italy. He was a dedicated volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America and a vigil member of the Order of the Arrow. He retired from the United States Postal Service in 1979, following a career of more than three decades.
He and his wife, Patricia, spent many years as part-time residents at their mountain home in Deep Gap. He was involved with the Deep Gap Volunteer Fire Department and attended Laurel Springs Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patricia McDonald; his three children, Cynthia Barnett (companion Kent Stanford) of Memphis, Tenn., George McDonald (Judy) of Cumming, Ga., Sandra McDonald-Claude (Wayne Claude) of Largo, Fla.; his grandson, Justin McDonald (Stephanie) of Parrish, Fla.; his brother, Gene McDonald of Montgomery, Ala.; and sister Alice Dinkins of Dothan, Ala.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Boy Scouts of America.
A memorial service was held at Lakewood United Methodist Church in St. Petersburg on Thursday, April 4, 2013.
