Lyle B. Cook

Lyle B. Cook, 90, of 1791 Browns Chapel Road, Boone, died Thursday evening, July 11, 2013, at his home.

Mr. Cook was born Dec. 14, 1922, a son of the late Earl D. Cook and Zella Critcher Cook. He retired from the United States Postal Service after 32 years of service. After retirement, he pursued real estate. In conjunction with this, he became a land developer in the area. Mr. Cook served in the United States Marine Corp during World War II.

Mr. Cook is survived by one daughter, Kelly Cook Hopkins and husband, Jeff, of Boone; one son, Mark Cook and wife, Vickie, of Boone; three granddaughters Jamie Hopkins, Paige Hopkins and Linzy Cook, all of Boone; and a special niece, Pat Potter and husband, Gary, of Charlotte. He is also survived by a number of other nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mayo Huneycutt Cook, and one brother, Dean Cook.

Funeral services for Mr. Lyle B. Cook will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday, July 14, 2013, at First Baptist Church of Boone. The body will lie in state at the church from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Officiating will be the Rev. Roy Dobyns. Burial will follow in the Cook Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 1:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the church prior to the service.
