Karen Warren Mask

Karen Warren Mask, 65, of Sawmills has won her battle with cancer and went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, at her son's residence.

Born March 21, 1948, in Watauga County, she was the 10th of 11 children born to the late Raymond F. Warren and Nora Thomas Warren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Hal Warren and Dale Warren, and two sisters, Gaye Coffey and Catherine Gilbert.

She is survived by two sons, Mark Mask and wife, Jeanie, and Shane Mask and wife, Lesley, all of Hudson; five grandchildren, Austin Mask, Ashley Hawkins, Shaley Mask, Zane Mask, and Ansley Mask; four brothers, the Rev. Bill Warren and wife, Libby, of Boone, the Rev. Edd Warren and wife, Joyce, of Sawmills, Jack Warren and wife, Maxine, of Hudson, and Steve Warren and wife, Mary, of Whitnel; two sisters, Juanita Wilson of Boone, and Elsie Winebarger of Zionville; a brother-in-law, Joe Coffey of Boone; and a host of cousins, nephews and nieces, who referred to her as the "Fun Aunt."

Karen was a lifelong member of Sunrise Baptist Church in Sawmills, where she served the Lord with many family members and friends. Many came to know her as owner and operator of Miracle Tan in Hudson, during which time she made many lasting friendships. She was most proud of her two boys and her grandchildren, who called her "Nana." One of the memories we will cherish of her are the strength and optimism she had during her many months of treatments, facing each round of chemo with boldness, confidence and grace from the Lord. Her bravery will always be remembered by those around her. Her memory will live in the hearts of her family and friends. She will be deeply missed until we meet her again at Jesus' feet, where there will be no more pain or sorrow. What a joyous day to look toward.

Funeral services for Ms. Mask will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at Sunrise Baptist Church conducted by Pastor David Woods and her brothers, the Rev. Bill Warren and the Rev. Edd Warren. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made in Ms. Mask's memory to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street NW, Lenoir, NC 28645.
