Judith Ann Cowart Banks
Ms. Banks was born in Savannah, Ga., a daughter of the late Oscar Underwood and Bernice Williams Cowart.
Survivors include her children, Matthew Richard Banks and his wife, Norja Hasnaoui Banks, of Carrboro, N.C., Sarah Katharine Banks and her husband, Timothy James Meyler, of Conway S.C.; and her grandson, Zachary Ethan Banks of Carrboro, N.C.
Judith lived fiercely. As a single mother, she raised two children who went on to advanced degrees and happy marriages. She was retired, but had worked as a library assistant, radio announcer, personnel analyst, community college instructor, nursing home assistant and other jobs, sometimes two or even three at a time, in order to build a life for herself and her family.
Judith loved to learn and was a voracious reader. She graduated from East Carolina University. She was a committed feminist and Democrat. She loved writing, reading, decorating, old movies, her family and friends, cowboys and cats.
Most important of all, Judith was a wonderful mother and friend. Her capacity to love and care for those in need were her greatest assets. Her friends and family and cats loved her dearly. She will be greatly missed. We will all miss her.
In lieu of sending flowers, please send flowers to your own mom and be sure she knows how much you love her.
