Joy Marie Cook

Joy Marie Cook, 29, of Durham, won her battle against cystic fibrosis and went on to her heavenly home on Sunday, May 18, 2014.  
Joy was born Dec. 4, 1984, in Avery County, the daughter of Keith and  Judy Cook. She was a research assistant of bio-statistics at the University of North Carolina and attended Heaton Christian Church.  
In addition to her parents, Joy is survived by one brother, D.J. Cook and wife, Angela, of Creedmore, N.C.; her paternal grandmother, Jean Cook of Elk Park; and her maternal grandparents, Dwain and Alverta  Forbes of Bellville, Ohio.
She is also survived by a number of aunts, uncles, cousins and many good friends.  She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Dennis Cook.
Funeral services for Joy Marie Cook were conducted Thursday, May 22, 2014, at 7 p.m. at Heaton Christian Church. The body laid in state at the church from 4 until 7 p.m. Officiating was Brent Nidifer and Jamie Shell.
The family received friends Thursday, May 22, 2014, from 4 until 7 p.m. at the church, prior to the service.    
 Graveside services and burial will be conducted Friday morning, May 23, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Crossnore First Baptist Church Cemetery.
