John Paul Lewis
Mr. John Paul Lewis, 88, of Boone, died on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at Watauga Medical Center in Boone.
Mr. Lewis was born on Dec. 12, 1924, in Columbus, Ohio to the late Arthur and Clyde Hodgson Lewis. Mr. Lewis was also preceded in death by a brother, J.R. Lewis; and a sister, Helen Dupree.
Mr. Lewis served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and enjoyed painting and horses. He loved the Lord and his family.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Paul Coffey. Burial followed in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens.
The family received friends 1 to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.
Mr. Lewis is survived by his wife, Cathy Phillips Lewis of Boone; son, Thom R. Lewis of North Wilkesboro; sister, Thera Jean Wallis of Starkville, Miss.; grandson, T. Richard Lewis of Greensboro; granddaughter, Heather Sawyer of Winston Salem; great grandchildren, Dakota, Valorie, and Jacob; also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
