Hugh B. Hagaman Sr.

Hugh B. Hagaman Sr., 89, of Boone, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2013, at Glenbridge Health & Rehabilitation.

Born Jan. 22, 1924, in Boone, he was a son of Smith and Stella McCartney Hagaman. He formerly owned and managed Trailway Dry Cleaners, and served as an assistant manager of the ASU Bookstore. Mr. Hagaman served in the U.S. Marine Corp during WWII and the Korean War before graduating from Duke University. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Boone, a past president of the Boone Rotary Club, and a past chairman of the Watauga County Board of Education.

Mr. Hagaman is survived his daughter, Mackie Hagaman and husband, Harvard Ayers, of Boone; daughter-in-law, Wendy Hagaman; and grandchildren, Holly Jean and Casey John Hagaman; and great-granddaughter, Emerson Skylar Hagaman, all of Wauwatosa, Wis.; and his brother, Mack Hagaman and wife, Vicki, of Winston-Salem. A number of nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

He was preceded tson, Hugh "Buzz" Hagaman Jr.; brother, Len Hagaman; and sisters, Elsie Hagaman, Ruth McConnell, Crete Swift, Mamie Hagaman, and Jewell Mast.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment will be private.

The family will receive friends 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Austin & Barnes.
