Grady Abraham Barlowe
Mr. Grady Abraham Barlowe, 97, of Lenoir, passed away Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative in Lenoir.
Born Oct. 2, 1914, in Caldwell County, Mr. Barlowe was a son of the late Rufus Lindsey and Lundia Hodges Barlowe, and the husband of the late Ruth Tuttle Barlowe.
Other than his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul Barlowe, Stuart Barlowe, Marion Barlowe; one sister, Alma B. Huntley; and one great-granddaughter, Abbigail Ruth Isenhour.
He was a charter member of the United Presbyterian Church and retired from Singer Furniture in 1978. Mr. Barlowe loved working in his woodshop and working on his farm. He was an avid horseman and enjoyed his horse riding friends.
Mr. Barlowe is survived by three children, Patsy Curtis and husband, Nick; Robert Barlowe, and Maurice Barlowe and wife, Carolyn, all of Lenoir; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Suddreth of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Mr. Barlowe's life will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, at United Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Steve Austin officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at United Presbyterian Church 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Monday prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be Hal McDaris, Ronald Greer, Greg Mosley, Chris Barlowe, J.C. Knight and Ken Barlowe. Honorary Pallbearers will be Men of United Presbyterian Church, Fred Pierce, Barry Perry and Rocky Townsend.
