Gayle Biddix Garland
Gayle Biddix Garland, 70, of Church Road, Boone, passed away Wednesday evening, Sept. 11, 2013, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Gayle was born Aug. 27, 1943, in Mitchell County, a daughter of the late Arnce Biddix and Zeola Hall Biddix. Gayle, also known as Mama Gayle, Nana, and Little Mama, was such a joy to the lives of so many. She was a beloved wife and great friend. Gayle was the mother of two, but she loved the whole community of children. She was the quarterback to both sides of the neighborhood football games, the mother who drove the girls to concerts before they could drive themselves. She was the Nana who would cook biscuits and gravy for as many little boys as her grandsons would bring over for breakfast, and she loved every minute of it.
When Gayle entered a room, it lit up from her ever-present smile and her radiance from within. She will be missed terribly by her family and friends.
Gayle is survived by her husband, Carroll E. Garland of the home; one daughter, Sonya Ann Garland and husband, C.J. Peterson, of Valle Crucis; one son, Carroll Alan Garland and wife, Paige, of Boone; grandsons, Lance Loveless of Raleigh and Ryan Loveless of Johnson City, Tenn., twin grandsons, Wade and Wyatt Garland of Boone; one stepgranddaughter, Linsey Peterson of Valle Crucis; one sister, Ila Biddix Phillips of Santa Maria, Calif.; one brother, Alan Biddix and wife, Melda, of Spruce Pine; one sister-in-law, Susan Garland Saunders of Madisonville, Tenn.; and one brother-in-law, Calvin Garland and wife, Angie, of Atlanta, Ga. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Donna Kay Biddix Burleson and Norma Jean Biddix Woody, and one brother, Lt. Col. Harold Biddix.
