Gary Wayne Potter

Mr. Gary Wayne "Whitey" Potter, 51, of Snyder Branch Road, Todd, passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at home. Born March 4, 1961, in Watauga County, he was a son of the late Ervin Potter and Zelma Shores Potter. Gary was a mechanic and had most recently worked at Appalachian Auto Glass. He also worked for Vermont American and Ashe Lake Wrecker Service. 

He is survived by his wife, Thersia Potter; one daughter Alexus Potter of the home; one son, Ervin Potter of Meat Camp; two step sons, Chris Harmon of Boone and Jason Harmon of Winston-Salem; a grandson, Logan Harmon of Fayetteville; his mother, Zelma Shores Potter; two sisters, Mary Keplar and husband, Randy, and Betty Hodges and husband, R. D., all of Boone; two brothers, Jerry Potter and wife, Treva, of Holden Beach, NC and Harold Potter and wife, Beth, of Mountain City; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his special grandmother, Myrtle Shores, (Granny Myrt); and grandparents, Richard Shores, Ted and Ann Potter.

Funeral services for Mr. Gary Wayne "Whitey" Potter will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Potter Main Cemetery. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home from noon until 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alexus Potter Education Fund.
