Franklin Ronald Smith
Franklin Ronald "Ron" Smith, 68, died suddenly on Sept. 3, 2013, at his home in Sarasota, Fla. He was born in Baltimore, Md., the son of the late Carl and Theresa Smith.
He was a 1963 graduate of Appalachian High School in Boone, where he was an outstanding athlete and student body leader. He graduated from Ohio State University in 1968 with a degree in engineering and lived and worked in Columbus, Ohio and Virginia Beach, Va., prior to moving to Sarasota. He was co-owner of the Homestyle Harmony restaurants in Sarasota, and Clearwater, Fla., and co-owner of the Harmony House restaurant in Venice, Fla. He was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Osprey, Fla. and frequently prepared meals for the church. He was also a weekly volunteer with Meals on Wheels in Sarasota for the last 4 years.
Ron is survived by his wife of 45 years, Gail Williams Smith; a son, Franklin Smith; two sisters, Diane Barton of Virginia Beach, Va., and Linda Wagoner of Boone, and a brother, Carl Smith of Sarasota.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ryan Smith.
Ron dearly loved his family, music, dancing and his many friends.
A celebration of life ceremony will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 129 S. Tamiami Trail, Osprey, FL.
There will be a gathering of family and friends at the church Fellowship Hall after the celebration ceremony.
In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to the family to insure their future security.
