Ervin Potter
Ervin Potter, 79, of Snyder Branch Rd., Todd, went to be with the Lord on January 27, 2012 at Glenbridge Health & Rehabilitation in Boone, after a courageous battle with cancer. He endured a lot of challenges with his illness but always with a positive attitude. Ervin was born June 14, 1932 in the Pottertown community to Ted and Ann Mains Potter. He attended the Full Gospel Fellowship Church in Rock Creek, NC.
Ervin spent most of his working career traveling the United States installing pews in churches and auditoriums for the Southern Desk Co. of Hickory.
Mr. Potter is survived by his wife of 60 years, Zelma Shores Potter; their children, Mary Keplar and husband, Randy, of Boone, Jerry Potter and wife, Treva, of Holden Beach, Betty Hodges and husband, R. D., of Boone, Gary Wayne Potter and wife, Thersia, of Todd, and Harold Potter and fiancè, Beth Howell, of Mountain City, TN; four granddaughters, Becky Price of Boone, Alexus Potter of Todd, Elizabeth and Kathryn Hodges, both of Boone; four grandsons, Ervin Charles Potter of Todd, Chris Harmon of Boone, Jason Harmon of Winston, and Tanner Hodges and wife, Beth, of Norfolk, VA; one great-grandson, Judson Hodges of Norfolk, Va.; three sisters, Pearlee and Emmer Potter, and Nell Proffitt, all of Todd; and one brother, Coolidge Potter of Meadowview, VA. A number of nieces, nephews, and a special friend of many years, Baird Buchanan also survive.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Alverdie Reece, Lydia Belle Moretz and Bonnie Lou Potter, and three brothers, Hoover, Boyd and Ted Potter.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 29, 2011 at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Kenneth Phipps. Burial followed in the Potter-Main Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ervin Potter Medical Expense Fund, in care of Mary Keplar, PO Box 2901, Boone, NC 28607, or to the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life at Oak Grove Baptist Church, 306 Oak Grove Rd., Boone, NC 28607.
