Born Sept. 18, 1935, in Watauga County, she was a daughter of Earl and Annie Tester Main. Mrs. Miller was a member of Howard's Creek Baptist Church for 55 years. Emogene loved and treasured her family selflessly and unconditionally, always placing their needs before hers. She especially loved children and babies, and was affectionately named by them Mama Gene, but she was most proud of her granddaughters.

Mrs. Miller is survived by her husband of 57 years, Baxter Wade Miller; five children, B.W. Miller and wife, Tory, Mary Miller, Patricia Miller and Melissa McCurry, all of Boone, and Jonathan Miller of Lexington; three sisters, Betty Townsend and husband, Larry, of Banner Elk, Earlene Williams and husband, Frank, of Zionville, and Margaret Cable and husband, Sanford, of Sugar Grove; brother, Hal Main and wife, Billie, of Vilas; granddaughters, Rebekah Miller and Heather McCurry, both of Boone; a number of nieces and nephews; and special family friends, Teri Cleavinger, Angie Shepard, Darrell Sloan and Caroline Sloan, and Lisa Sigmon.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Ann Miller; and sister, Dorothy Ann Main.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, at Howard's Creek Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Joe London, the Rev. John Mough, and the Rev. Chris Reinolds. Burial will follow in the Howard's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials to the E. K. G. Building Fund at Howard's Creek Baptist Church, 240 Howard's Creek Church Rd., Boone NC 28607.
