Elva Greene Watson

Elva Greene Watson, 87, of Wilson Lane, Boone, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at her home.

Born July 8, 1925, in Avery County, she was a daughter of Jermie Monroe and Addie Hayes Greene.

Mrs. Watson was a member of Flat Springs Baptist Church. She loved cooking, quilting, and tending her flower and vegetable gardens, but was especially fond of children.

Mrs. Watson is survived by her son, Scotty Watson and wife, Marilyn, of Boone; and one brother, J. M. Greene and wife, Marketta, of Elk Park. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Watson; one son, Gus Watson; three brothers, Harvey, Smith and Vern Greene; and four sisters, Maude Greene, Hazel Guy, Margie Miller and Wanda Clair.

Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at the Austin & Barnes Funeral Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Brian Miller and the Rev. Tim Greene. The family will receive friends 12 to 1 p.m. Friday, prior to services, at the chapel. Burial will follow in the Flat Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
