Elizabeth Kincaid Conrad
Elizabeth Kincaid Conrad departed this earth on Saturday, July 13, 2013, after a brief illness. She was born in Lenoir, on May 10, 1920, to the late Marshall Wilfong Kincaid and Annie Clay Kincaid. She came to Greensboro to attend St Leos Nursing School in 1938. Here she met and married Luke Conrad.
As an RN, she worked for Wesley Long Hospital as an emergency room supervisor until she left to help her husband start Libby Hill Seafood Restaurants in 1953. She was active in Muirs Chapel United Methodist Church, Lee's Bible Class, and United Methodist Women. She was awarded "Woman of the Year" for her service to the Methodist Women.
Another passion she had was volunteering to serve the elderly, serving for over 50 years at Evergreens Nursing Home and Camden Place. Every Thursday she and her trusted companion Emma could be found hosting "Coffee Hour" at Camden Place. She received the volunteer of the year for the State of North Carolina in 1997 for her efforts.
She was married to the late Lucas L Conrad for 53 years. She was predeceased by her husband; son Robert D Conrad; brother William H Kincaid; sister Joyce K Inman, and three infant siblings, Charlotte, Marshall, and Harold.
She is survived by children Kathryn Conrad of Elk Creek, Va., Ken Conrad and wife, Lee, of McLeansville, David Conrad and wife, Shelia, of Beech Mountain; grandchildren Leslie Conrad of Clemson, S.C., Ashley Conrad of Charlotte, Christian and wife, Robin Conrad, of Charlotte, Justin and wife, Andria Conrad, of Greensboro, and Luke Conrad of Qingdao, China, and five great granddaughters. She is also survived by sisters, Miriam Lawrence of Sugar Grove, and Irene Wright of Greensboro. Also by her beloved Maltese, Emma Lu.
A service of celebration will be held 2 p.m. at Muirs Chapel United Methodist Church on Tuesday, July 16, 2013. The family will greet friends one hour before the service in the Fellowship Hall.
