Eleanor Keeton Sparks

Mrs. Eleanor Keeton Sparks, 84, of 4438 Hampton Heights Drive, Birmingham, Ala., passed away Tuesday morning, September 11, 2012, at Watauga Medical Center.

Mrs. Sparks was born, August 3, 1928, in Tuscumbia, Ala. She was a graduate of Phillips High School and retired from AmSouth (Regions) Bank after a banking career of 35 years, rising to the position of branch manager and vice-president. She was one of the early female members of Rotary International, Birmingham. Eleanor was a long-time member of Mount Vernon Methodist Church.

Mrs. Sparks is survived by two daughters, Susan Thames and husband, Roy, of Tampa, Fla., and Deborah Young of Birmingham, Ala.; two granddaughters, Courtney T. Shelby and husband, Rick, of Mandeville, La., and Elizabeth Y. Young of Boone; and two grandsons, Branon R. Thames and wife, Michelle, and Adam S. Thames and wife, Alicia, all of Tampa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Edwin "Buddy" Sparks; her mother, Nelson Bivens Gresky; her father, Andrew Keeton, and one grandson, Spencer Keeton.

Funeral services for Mrs. Eleanor Keeton Sparks will be conducted  2 p.m. Saturday, September 15, 2012, at Ridout's Valley Chapel, Homewood, Ala. Graveside services will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 12 to 1 p.m. Saturday  at the chapel prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels, 3712 4th Avenue South, Birmingham, Ala. 35222.
