Edith Weant Peeler

Mrs. Edith Weant Peeler, 92, of Salisbury passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2012, in Salisbury.

Born November 7, 1919, in Salisbury, to the late John Alexander Weant and Annie Shoaf Weant, she was a graduate of Boyden High School and attended Catawba College. Mrs. Peeler worked as corporate secretary and director at Rowan Cotton Mill until her retirement in 1986.

She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, where she had been a Sunday school teacher.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Joseph Woodrow "Woodie" Peeler on September 16, 1993; sisters, Duette Leonard Kincaid and Geneva Peeler; and brothers, Howard Weant and Graham Weant.

Mrs. Peeler is survived by several nieces and nephews, Ann Peeler Winkler, Ralph Peeler and wife, Kay, Gwen Jordan and husband, Bill, Don Weant and wife, Harriett, Jerry Kincaid and wife, Bonnie, Carol Weant, John Weant, and David Weant and wife, Nell; and her special friends, Sam Moir, Jim and Betty Dehart; and caregivers Susan Rodgers and Cathy Miller.

The family will receive friends 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 14, 2012, at First Baptist Church.

The funeral service will follow 2 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Kenneth Lance and the Rev. Phil Cooley. Her Sunday school class will be seated together as a group. Burial will follow at Rowan Memorial Park.
