Mr. Dwight Brown, 80, of Andy Hicks Road, Banner Elk, died Wednesday morning, August 1, 2012, at Life Care Center in Banner Elk.

Mr. Brown was born May 17, 1932, in Avery County, a son of the late George and Rosetta Guy Brown. He was a retired carpenter and a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church.

Mr. Brown is survived by one daughter, Debbie Norris and husband, Roger, of Elk Park; one son, Charles Brown and wife, Brenda, of Banner Elk; two granddaughters, Erica Johnson and husband, Raborn, of Boone, and Jennifer Brown of Banner Elk; two grandsons, Roger Lee Norris of Abingdon, Va., and Matthew Brown and wife, Tracey, of Vilas; and three brothers, Roscoe Brown and wife, Pauline, of Elk Park, Junior Brown of Hickory, and Raymond Brown and wife, Margaret, of Elk Park. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Geneva Presnell Brown.

Funeral services for Mr. Dwight Brown will be conducted 7 p.m. Thursday, August 2, 2012, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Melvin Hodges. The body will lie in state at the chapel from 6 to 7 p.m. Graveside services and burial will be conducted 10 a.m. Friday at the Presnell Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hampton Funeral Service.
