Cosby Campbell Cornett

Mrs. Cosby Campbell Cornett, 90, of Boone, North Carolina, passed away June 4, 2012, at Glenbridge Healthcare Facility. Born November 14, 1921, Cosby was a lifelong resident of Watauga County. She was the daughter of the late Reverend Charles and Cleo Campbell of Ashe County. Affectionately known as "Nannybug" or "Granny", she loved working in her garden, politics, hats, impossibly high heels, Duke Basketball, NASCAR and yard sales. But mostly she loved her family.

Stricken by a stroke and bed bound for 11 years, Cosby faced every challenge with grace and patience. Although she lost the ability to speak, she never lost her sense of humor or her ability to laugh at herself. She truly embodied her favorite saying that "the only difference between a good day and a bad day is your attitude."

Cosby was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years; Russell Aaron Cornett, Sr., two brothers and four sisters, and her grandson Scott McDee Cornett. She is survived by her brother Duncan Campbell and wife, Mildred, of Newton, AL; four children R.A. Cornett, Jr. and wife, Brenda, of Vilas, N.C., Marvella Baker and husband, Bob, of Boone, N.C., Denver Cornett of Boone, N.C., and Sherry Lindquist and husband, Kurt, of Charlotte N.C.; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 7, at Piney Grove Cemetery on Poplar Grove Road. Officiating will be the Rev. Gordon Noble. The funeral procession will leave Austin and Barnes funeral home located at 194 Queen Street, Boone, NC at 1:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

The family wishes to thank all of Cosby's caregivers at Glenbridge Healthcare Facility and, especially, Anne Marie Auger. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Watauga County Humane Society, PO Box 1835, Boone, NC 28607.
