Carrie James Lewallen

Carrie Ellen James Lewallen, 88, passed away Thursday March 28, 2013, at High Point Regional Hospital.
Carrie was born on May 14, 1924, to the late Smith Wesley James and Lula Matheson James.
She was a longtime member of Springfield Friends Meeting. She belonged to the Martha Jay Sunday school class, as well as the Sara R. Haworth Circle. Carrie was an avid bowler for over 60 years, and enjoyed bowling every Tuesday morning with the Classic Senior League in High Point. She also followed the love of her life, Jimmie Lewallen, throughout his racing career and was known to compete herself.
Carrie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jimmie Lewallen and a son, Howard Morrow.
Carrie is survived by daughter, Rita Walker and her husband, Keith, of Trinity; sons, Gary Lewallen and his wife, Sandy, of Trinity, Mark Lewallen and his wife, Tracey, of Richmond, Va.; sisters, Tressie Greene of Boone, Joyce Skeen of Archdale; brother, Baxter James of Boone; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; as well as many special friends.
A celebration of Carrie's life was held 2 p.m. Monday, April 1, 2013, at Springfield Friends Meeting, 555 E Springfield Road, High Point, with Pastor Ray Luther officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Viewing and visitation with the family were held from 12 to 2 p.m. in the church sanctuary. The family also received friends in the fellowship hall after the services.
