Brian Kent Dorsey

Brian Kent Dorsey, known as "B.K.," of Boone, passed away Monday, Sept. 2, 2013.

Born Oct. 22, 1939, in Salt Lake City, Utah, he was a son of Earl and Virginia Bush Dorsey.

Surviving are his wife, Grace Dorsey; two cousins, Carol Tench Huston and Larry Dorsey; and he was preceded in death by his first wife, Rosalea.

Always a colorful character, B.K. was a fun guy who was active in community affairs. He enjoyed discussing issues, including local politics, with the Coffee Club at Boone Drug Downtown; was a veteran of US Army, serving in Germany; and, a graduate of Appalachian State University. After graduation, he opened one of the first art galleries in downtown Boone. B.K. thought like an artist with a businessman's heart. He established and operated Boone Industries, a furniture manufacturing and specialty screen printing business, and was also a real estate broker/owner of many properties in the High Country area.

Always civic-minded, B.K. competed for a seat on both the Boone Town Council and the Watauga County Commission. He served on various boards, including both the Boone and Watauga County Planning Boards, organized and worked as a leading member of the Snow Queen of the South program. B. K. participated as a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church and was proud of his membership in the Vero Beach Elks Club.

Services were conducted Sept. 6, 2013 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Boone.
