Brady Kermit Cheek

Brady Kermit Cheek, 93, of Boone, was lost to a motor vehicle accident on May 6, 2013.

He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather who loved life and brought joy to those around him.

He is survived by daughters, Betty Cheek Causey and husband, Larry, of Stokesdale; Debbie Cheek Smith and husband, Bobby, of Hayes; Lois Cheek Finney and husband, Kenneth, of Elkin; sons, Ricky Cheek of Lexington, and Ronnie Cheek and wife, Cathy, of Kings Mountain; daughter-in-law, Joyce Cheek of Hayes; stepdaughter, Dorothy Brown Horvath and husband, Mike, of Wilkesboro; stepsons Carlton Brown of Hudson, Eddie Brown and wife, Dianne, of Boone, and J.B. Brown and wife, Joann, of Hudson; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

His wife, Gladys Cheek, and son, Tommy Cheek, preceded him in death.

Brady was an avid farmer and famous for his potatoes. He planted a garden every year of his life and was known to share his produce all over Boone. He was a member of Perkinsville Baptist Church. Many of his days were spent fishing unmapped streams all over the Blue Ridge Mountains. Fond memories include picnics on the Blue Ridge Parkway, eating fresh-cut watermelon with seed spitting contests, and catching night crawlers for fishing expeditions.

Services for Mr. Brady Kermit Cheek will be held Saturday, May 11, 2013, at Austin & Barnes Funeral Chapel, Boone, with the Rev. Seth Norris officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m., prior to services at Austin & Barnes on Saturday. Flowers are accepted or memorials may be made to Perkinsville Baptist Church, 274 Jefferson Road, Boone, NC 28607.
