Billy Austin Wallace

Billy Austin Wallace, 81, of Sugar Grove, died Sunday morning, Dec. 16, 2012, at Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville.

Mr. Wallace was born Oct. 10, 1931, in Watauga County, a son of the late Roby Luther Wallace and Erma Martin Wallace. He was a retired auto mechanic and served with the United States Army.

Mr. Wallace is survived by two sons, Ricky Wallace and wife, Amanda, and Danny Wallace, all of Vilas; two daughters, Kathy Wallace Barker of Sugar Grove, and Staci Wallace Vestal and husband, Jason, of Boone; four grandchildren, Tyler Barker of Sugar Grove, Erica Wallace and Haley Wallace, both of Hudson, and Brodie Vestal of Boone; one brother, R.L. Wallace Jr. of Mountain City, Tenn.; two sisters, Mabel Hagaman of Trade, Tenn., and Mary Geneva Wright of Indiana; and a special friend, Marjorie Henson of Sugar Grove. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Sue Thomas Wallace; two sisters, Edith Henson and Ella Mae Fletcher; and three brothers, Argus Wallace, Kermit Wallace, and Jack Wallace.

Funeral services for Billy Austin Wallace were conducted Tuesday morning, Dec. 18, 2012, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. Officiaing were the Rev. Melvin Hodges and the Rev. Derrick Wilson. Military graveside rites and burial, provided by American Legion Post 130 and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 90, will followed in Mount Lawn Memorial Park and Gardens.

Flowers were appreciated, or memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, in care of Brian Barker, 441 Daniel Drive, Boone, NC 28607.
