Azalee Cook Stockard

Azalee Cook Stockard, 86 of 2358 Deerfield Road in Boone died Friday, January 27, 2012 at Watauga Medical Center.

Mrs. Stockard was born August 5, 1925, in Watauga County, a daughter of the late Wade Edward Hampton and Lucille Critcher Hampton. She was retired nurse, working for over 20 years, for Dr. William Smith. Mrs. Stockard was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church.

Mrs. Stockard is survived by a son, John Cook and his wife, Connie, of Durham, NC; a daughter, Donna Miller of Greensboro, NC; four grandchildren, Terrell Miller and his wife, Sherry, of N. Wilkesboro, Patrick Miller and his wife, Cameron, of Lexington, NC, Krista Davis and her husband, Scott, of Morganton, NC, Kelly McDonald and her husband, Mark, of Greensboro, NC; a brother-in-law, David G. Watson, of Boone; and one nephew. She is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband Jack Cook, and second husband, Charles Stockard; sister, Betty Joe Watson; a son-in-law Bill H. Miller; and a niece.

A memorial service was conducted Sunday, January 29, at Mount Vernon Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bud Russell officiating with Linda Shoemake assisting.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, 3505 Bamboo Road, Boone, NC 28607.
