Arthur Fulton Barbour
Mr. Arthur Fulton "Pete" Barbour, 94, of 142 Hillside Drive, Burlington died at Alamance Regional Medical Center on Sunday, June 9, 2013.
A native of Johnston County, he was for 66 years, the husband of Hazel Lee Burgess Barbour, who survives, and the son of Octavus Parker Barbour and Lelia Mae Parker Barbour, both deceased. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during World War II in the South Pacific. Pete was former co-owner of Burlington Drug Company. He was an active member of the First Reformed United Church of Christ where he served as an Elder, Deacon, Sunday school teacher and choir member. At the time of his death, he was the oldest male member of the church. He served as a volunteer with the Alamance County Meals on Wheels and a member of the Burlington Exchange Club.
Pete is survived by his loving family, son, Thomas Fulton Barbour and wife, Nancy Poole Barbour, of Raleigh; granddaughter, Michelle Suzanne Barbour Jacobs and husband, Jonathan Ray Jacobs, of Mebane; and great-grandchildren, Derek Ray Jacobs and Lacey Rose Jacobs. Special thanks to Linda and Mack Kerns and Frank Barbour for their loving acts of kindness.
He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Joseph Parker Barbour, Thelbert Alonzo "T.A." Barbour, Mae Barbour Gardner, James Raeford Barbour, Julia Barbour Slayton, Beuna Barbour Talton and Octavus Parker "O.P." Barbour.
The funeral service will be conducted 3 p.m. at the First Reformed United Church of Christ on Wednesday, June 12, 2013, with service officiated by the Rev. Phillip Myers. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.
