Anne Mallonee Dodd Phelps was born in Waco, N. C. on Jan. 29, 1940. She graduated from Waco High School, where she was a talented singer and star basketball player. She received a Bachelor of Music Education degree in voice from Appalachian State University, and then taught elementary school in North Carolina for several years. After moving to Boone and earning her Master's degree in reading, she taught reading and elementary school in Mountain City, Tenn. for 21 years, where she was voted Teacher of the Year and into Who's Who of American Teachers.
She loved singing and actively participated in the church choirs in Boone, including the Boone Baptist Church, the Boone United Methodist Church, and the Boone Presbyterian Church. She also sang in the Appalachian Chorale. She enjoyed decorating and going to tennis tournaments.
She has two sons, Jay Dellinger and Craig Dellinger; and a granddaughter, Ariel. She married Joe Phelps in 1976, and they were married for 36 years.
Anne was preceded in death by her father, Walter H. Dodd, and her mother, Ruth S. Dodd.
A memorial service will be held 3 p.m.at the First Presbyterian Church in Boone, on Friday, March 22, 2013.
