Ann Merrill Norwood
Born in North Andover, Mass., daughter of Merrill and Patricia (Carragher) Norwood, Dr. Norwood generously shared her wisdom, wit, kindness and joy as teacher, counselor, pastor, cousin, friend and adopted grandmother.
An honors graduate of Abbott Academy, Wellesley College (Class of 1958) and Boston University (Ed.M., 1960), she also received master and doctorate degrees in psychology/counseling from Boston College (Ed.D., 1979).
A lifelong student and teacher, she inspired all who knew her to be their best selves. Dr. Norwood had the joy of being a founder of a small, independent primary school in the mountains of North Carolina where she lived for a decade.
Dr. Norwood summarized her gratitude for the blessings of her life in these words: "Life has been rich in family ties, abundant friendships, and work that was challenging and satisfying."
A woman of great faith, with a passion for social justice, Dr. Norwood had the amazing gift of being fully present with every family member, friend and client, offering unconditional love and compassion, and making each person in her wide circle of family and friends feel special and cared for.
Her loving spirit will continue to abide in the hearts of family and friends.
