Amanda Greene Smith
Amanda "Lucille" Greene Smith, 85, of Salisbury, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at Autumn Care of Salisbury.
Lucille was born on Sept. 19, 1928, in Watauga County, a daughter of the late Robert Warren and Lillie Mae Dishman Greene.
Lucille is a graduate of Cove Creek High School in Watauga County, she worked for the Salisbury City School System as the cafeteria manager at Wiley Elementary and Salisbury High school for over 20 years before retiring. Lucille was a member of First Baptist Church of Gold Hill.
Lucille was a very special mama, she was selfless and humble, and always thought of others first. She loved the Lord, her church, and her family. Lucille worked hard all of her life and made sure her family had what they needed. She loved other children too. She would do whatever she could to help others. Lucille was a "great" cook; everyone loved her cooking. She was a kind and loving mother who will be missed by all.
In addition to her parents, Lucille will be rejoicing in Heaven with her daughter, who preceded her death, Patricia Leigh Smith; brothers, Roy Lee Greene, Henry Lawrence Greene, Willis Greene and Wayne Greene; and sister, Joyce Coffey.
Lucille is survived by her husband of over 66 years, Homer Glenn Smith, who she married on August 15, 1947; sons, David G. Smith and wife, Tonia, of Salisbury, and Randy N. Smith and wife, Barbara, of Salisbury; daughters, Marie S. Lemly of Lexington, Shirley S. Enlow of Salisbury, and Libby S. Dugger and husband, Joe, of Newton; sisters, Rachel Townsend and Lois Ann Hodge, both of Valle Crucis. Lucille is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 24 great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013, at the Powles Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Larry Beaver and the Rev. Robin Albright. Burial will follow at Brookhill Memorial Gardens in Rockwell.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013, at Powles Funeral Home.
