Boone police have arrested a woman after allegations that she used a 92-year-old victim's identity to make purchases from magazine companies.
Mary Elizabeth Davis, 54, was charged Jan. 22 with two counts of felony identity theft, Boone Police Department announced Wednesday.
Davis was a former neighbor of the victim who would sit with her on occasion, said Detective Kat Brackenridge of the Boone Police Department.
The victim’s children learned about the crime when UPS called to confirm a delivery address for items ordered in their mother’s name but being delivered to Davis’s new address, Brackenridge said.
The family then called the company and discovered that more than $1,000 worth of items had been ordered using the victim’s credit information, she said.
Davis was issued a $25,000 unsecured bond and is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 26.
