Will DA race be decided today -- or this summer?

by Anna Oakes

The race for district attorney could result in a runoff election if none of the three Republican candidates secures at least 40 percent of the primary election vote on Tuesday, Watauga County Elections Director Jane Ann Hodges noted.

Three Republicans -- Seth Banks of Burnsville, Nathan Miller of Boone and Britt Springer of Boone -- are seeking election to the office, and no candidates from other parties filed for the position. The 24th Prosecutorial District includes Avery, Madison, Mitchell, Watauga and Yancey counties.

If no candidate garners at least 40 percent of the votes in the 24th District, a runoff election will be held this summer. If a runoff election is required in a federal office in North Carolina, the runoff election would take place Tuesday, July 15. If no federal race has a runoff, a runoff election would be held Tuesday, June 24.
