Watauga's jobless rate falls

The jobless rate in Watauga County fell to 7.3 percent in August 2013, with 1,774 people counted as being unemployed out of a labor force of 24,455.
The rate is down from 7.9 percent in July and 8.3 percent in August 2012.
The unemployment estimates were released by the N.C. Department of Commerce Oct. 2.
The department announced that unemployment rates decreased in 98 North Carolina counties in August.
Scotland County had the highest unemployment rate at 15.2 percent, while Currituck County had the lowest at 4.1 percent. Among metro areas, Rocky Mount, at 12 percent, experienced the highest rate, and Asheville, at 6.3 percent, had the lowest.
The August not seasonally adjusted statewide unemployment rate was 8.3 percent.
