Watauga Republicans open HQ at Shadowline
by Anna Oakes
The Watauga County
Republican Party opened its 2012 headquarters at the Shops at Shadowline, the shopping center on
Shadowline Drive in Boone anchored by Harris Teeter, on Monday.
The office is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m.
to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. A grand opening will be held at the location later in the year.
County Vice Chair Tommy Adams said the party selected the location because
it its is visible and easily accessible by the public.
"It's a well-known location," Adams said. "There's
plenty of foot traffic by there."
Plus, the party heard
that President Barack Obama's Organizing for America organization was interested in the space
-- which was all the more reason to snap it up, Adams laughed.
The office provides a number of resources to voters and those who would like to
get involved in the political process, including voter registration forms, yard signs, bumper
stickers and staff who can answer questions.
"We have
materials from candidates from the top of the ticket to the bottom of the ticket," Adams
said.
The office will be staffed primarily by the Republican
Women's Club and the ASU College Republicans, but anyone can volunteer to work with the
party, Adams noted.
"We are always eager for anybody to volunteer. You can never have too many," he said.
A phone number
has not yet been established for the office.
