Watauga Opportunities adds jobs

by Scott Nicholson

Watauga Opportunities, Inc. has received a Golden LEAF grant to help with a manufacturing expansion for its Boone plant.
The $107,500 from the Golden LEAF Foundation will help fund a $239,725 clean- room expansion to help meet increased demand for medical supplies, which are manufactured at the site. The expansion will create 10 new, full-time jobs with benefits and Watauga Opportunities continues to buck the national and local unemployment trends by experiencing growth despite the recession.
Watauga Opportunities is a non-profit corporation that was one of the founders of the Marketing Association of Rehabilitation Centers and provides vocational rehabilitation, developmental training, supported employment and residential services to people with disabilities or other barriers to employment.  The factory on Meadowview Drive currently produces 124 products for 16 customers in the fields of medical manufacturing, plastic thermaforming and packaging.
