Waffle House eyes Boone
by Anna Oakes
Waffle House, a 24-hour restaurant chain with 1,500 establishments across the Southeast, is making moves to open a new restaurant in Boone.
On Dec. 6, the company will appear before the Boone Board of Adjustment to request a variance from a town Unified Development Ordinance requirement that driveways be at least 150 feet apart in the corridor districts.
The request is for a half-acre vacant lot on Blowing Rock Road between Jerry Butler's dentist office and Boone Bike & Touring. According to meeting materials, Waffle House's proposed driveway would be 80 feet from the adjacent driveway to the west and 108 feet from the adjacent driveway to the east.
Speaking in September, Waffle House spokesperson Kelly Thrasher said, "I can tell you that we are looking in Boone, but at this time, nothing has been confirmed."
Thrasher did not respond to emailed questions as of presstime.
Waffle House offers a variety of foods with a "breakfast focus," according to its website.
