WCS superintendent applications due Friday

The Watauga County Board of Education is still in the application process of searching for a new superintendent Applications for the position are due by 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 17. According to Watauga County Schools' public information officer Marshall Ashcraft the board has received 11 applications so far.
Dr. David Fonseca, Watauga County School's interim superintendent assumed leadership of Watauga County Schools in late March 2013, when the school system announced a $186,110 buyout of Superintendent David Kafitz's contract attributable to public complaints about his exchanges with community members.
Fonseca will continue to serve as interim superintendent through June 30.
The salary will be based on applicable state salary schedule, plus full benefits, and a local supplement.
Applications may be obtained from the North Carolina School Boards Association's website, http://www.NCSBA.org or the Human Resources page of the Watauga County Schools website.
Completed applications should be returned to Watauga Superintendent Search, Attorney Paul Miller, Miller & Johnson Law Firm P.O. Box 49, Boone.
The board plans to review the applications and select candidates for interviews this month and employ the new superintendent beginning July 1.
