Vilas wreck causes minor injuries

A collision at the intersection of U.S. 421 and Vanderpool Road on Friday caused minor injuries and traffic backups through the morning.
The accident occurred just before 7:30 a.m. when a 2007 Jeep SUV turned left off Vanderpool Road into the path of a 2010 Chevy truck pulling a cattle trailer, said Trooper Tim Hendrix of the N.C. Highway Patrol.
The driver of the Jeep, Gilbert Williams of Vilas, suffered rib and side pain and was treated at Watauga Medical Center after the collision, Hendrix said.
A passenger in the Chevy truck, driven by Sanford Cable of Sugar Grove, also suffered cuts and scrapes and traveled to Watauga Medical Center to be checked out, he said.
Williams was charged with failure to yield right-of-way, Hendrix said.
The wreck caused congestion for more than an hour as another trailer was called in to transport the cattle before the truck could be towed.
