Vehicle hits electrical pole, closes road

by Kellen Moore

An early morning wreck on Poplar Grove Road knocked out power for several hours Tuesday.
The accident happened at about 1:45 a.m. as Brent Michael Decker, 22, of Thomasville, was traveling south on Poplar Grove road near Poplar Grove Road Connector, according to the police report.
His 1997 Subaru ran off the road to the right, hit a utility pole, spun and rolled down an embankment where it hit a parked vehicle, the report states.
Decker was not visibly injured and did not require a visit to the hospital immediately after the wreck, the report states.
He was charged with driving while impaired, the report states.
New River Light & Power, as well as other utility companies, were called to the scene to replace the pole and fix the lines that fell, General Manager Ed Miller said.
The power was restored at about 8:30 a.m., and the road remained closed for about an hour afterward as the crews finished their work, he said.
