Update: Hearts of Hospitality House Turkey Trot 5K nets nearly $17K

Hearts of Hospitality House presented its second annual event, The Turkey Trot Thanksgiving 2012 on Nov. 22 with more than 300 runners and walkers participating in the 5K race-fundraiser for the shelter in Boone.
Overall, the event had almost 600 participants and raised nearly $17,000.
"We are very excited about the successful event and really look forward to growing this into a High Country staple event," said Todd Carter, Hospitality House director of development.
Overall Top 3 winners included Carson Nguyen with a time of 18:29:19; Bryan Crist 18:54:96; and Avery Pitts, 18:55:54. The top women’s time was 19:43:44 for Leigh Wallace, fifth place overall.
All proceeds from the event benefit men, women and children living in crisis, poverty or homelessness. The 2011 event raised more than $14,000 and collected 800 pounds of food. Totals for 2012 are not yet available.
