UPDATE: Police apprehend fleeing suspects
by Kellen Moore
Two people were arrested after fleeing from authorities near Bradford Trailer Park in Boone on Thursday afternoon.
An officer attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation in the Perkinsville area around 1 p.m., said Sgt. Shane Robbins of the Boone Police Department.
A short chase ensued down U.S. 421 to Bamboo Road before ending at the Bradford Trailer Park off Brook Hollow Road.
Within minutes, officers from multiple agencies had flocked to the site to set up a perimeter after the male occupant could not be found. The man was located about 15 minutes after police backup responded.
Police later requested masks to keep both individuals from spitting at the officers.
Meanwhile, other officers and a K-9 searched for a paper towel, pink bag and any other evidence tossed from a vehicle on U.S. 421 near Bub Teems Road and on Bamboo Road near the rock quarry.
The Boone Police have charged two suspects in connection with the chase.
In addition, an investigation discovered that the subjects had reportedly stolen a number of items from Lowes Food at New Market Centre just prior to Boone Police officers attempting to stop them, according to a news release from the Boone Police Department.
David Dieters, 39, was charged with driving while impaired; fleeing to elude arrest; resisting a public officer; driving with license revoked; misdemeanor larceny; and several traffic violations.
Dieters was placed under a $10,000 secured bond pending an Oct. 16 court appearance.
Amber Byrd, 31, was charged with misdemeanor larceny and resisting a public officer. Byrd was placed under a $750 secured bond pending an Oct. 16 court appearance.
No other information was available at presstime.
