UPDATE: Medics 'unsuccessful' in attempt to revive man at Boone Bike Rally
by Tom Mayer
A man died Saturday after medics responded to a call for service to the Boone Bike Rally at the High Country Fairgrounds, according to Watauga County Sheriff Len Hagaman.
"A 44-year-old male was found in his tent not breathing," Hagaman said in an email response to a question about the incident. "CPR was being performed by Boone Fire and Watauga Medics, but was unsuccessful."
According to the incident report, sent by Hagaman on Monday, the man was Mark
Stephen Whitescraver, 44, of Parrot, VA.
Dawn Dove Whitescarver also confirmed the death on her late husband on his Facebook account on Sunday.
Dove and Whitescarver became the first couple to be married at the annual Boone Bike Rally, held at the High Country Fairgrounds on Friday.
"My very loving husband, best friend and love of my life past away due to a massive heart attack. Thank you to all our family and friends for your thoughts and prayer as well as all of our very close friends in Boone," Dove wrote on Sunday morning.
Dove and Whitescarver first met about 17 years ago at a Blacksburg, Va., Dairy Queen, where Dove was working a second job. The two reconnected about four years ago, Dove said.
Whitescarver was a member of the Patriot Guard Riders, an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization of motorcycle riders who work to ensure dignity and respect at memorial services for fallen military members, first responders and honorably discharged veterans.
