UPDATE: Early voting starts

Thursday marked the first day of early voting for the 2014 primary on May 6.

Voting started at 8 a.m. and by the end of that day 316 people had voted.
 
"Everything has gone very smoothly," Watauga County Board of Elections Director Jane Ann Hodges said. "We were very happy with the number (of voters) at the administration building."

Hodges said that she and her staff hope to see voting numbers increase in the county this week, but that she and her staff have been very impressed with everything so far.

The following are the number of voters for each site on Thursday:

- Watauga County Administration Building in downtown Boone: 248.

- Western Watauga Community Center in Sugar Grove: 15.

- Blowing Rock Town Hall: 29.

- Deep Gap Fire Department: 11.

- Meat Camp Department: 13.

Early voting started at 8 a.m. on Friday. Hodges said that voting also went well during the second day and a total of 266 people voted.

The following are the number of voters for each site on Friday:

- Watauga County Administration Building in downtown Boone: 184.

- Western Watauga Community Center in Sugar Grove: 8.

- Blowing Rock Town Hall: 27.

- Deep Gap Fire Department: 22.

- Meat Camp Department: 25.


Early voting ends Saturday, May 3. Voter registration has already closed and there is no longer same-day registration in North Carolina.

The remaining days, times and locations for the early-voting sites at the Watauga County Administration Building (beside courthouse) are:

- Monday, April 28, to Friday, May 2: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

- Saturday, May 3: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.


The following dates and times are for the early-voting sites at Western Watauga Community Center, Blowing Rock Town Hall, Deep Gap Fire Department and Meat Camp Department:

-  Monday, April 28, to Friday, May 2: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

- Saturday, May 3: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
