UPDATE: Body found in Watauga Lake identified

Tennessee Highway Patrol has identified the person found dead on Monday after a vehicle was found in Watauga Lake as 81-year-old Juanita Ramsey of Chuckey, Tenn..


The Greene County Sheriff's Department confirmed on Wednesday, that the car found belonged to Ramsey who was reported missing the morning her vehicle was discovered on Monday. 


According to the preliminary report conducted by Tennessee Highway Patrol, Trooper Robert Wills, who investigated the incident, reported Ramsey was driving a 2008 Chrysler south on Tenn. Highway 167 when she failed to stop at a stop sign at the Lakeview Drive intersection.


Ramsey's car slid through a gravel parking lot and went down a 60-foot embankment and traveled another 75-feet before hitting the water of Watauga Lake. The car was found submerged in 11 feet of water.


According to the report, no alcohol or drugs were involved but tests were requested.

Ramsey was wearing a safety belt.
