UNC system board to consider fee hikes
by Anna Oakes
The University of North Carolina system Board of Governors will consider fee increases requested by 16 of the system's 16 campuses on Friday.
Appalachian State University is seeking a number of increases to student fees for 2014-15, including a $33 athletics fee increase; $33 athletics facilities debt service fee increase; $10 educational, recreational and Renewable Energy Initiative fee increase; and a $6 educational and technology fee increase.
Most students at ASU will not see an increase in tuition next year, with the exception of a 6 percent increase for out-of-state undergraduate students.
UNC system President Tom Ross and the UNC Board of Governors asked campuses to forego tuition increases for the 2014-15 year because of increases in previous years.
