Two men charged in Friday rapes

Police received a call around 10 p.m. Friday reporting an assault at 575 Queen Street, said Capt. Andy Le Beau. When officers arrived, two women reported that they both had been raped by two men they knew.
Le Beau said the four had met socially at the apartment of one of the suspects when the incident escalated.
David Lee Weber, 22, of Assembly Drive, Boone, and Jose Antonio Cuevas, 21, of Queen Street, Boone, were both charged with two counts of second-degree forcible rape, according to Boone police. Weber also was charged with two counts of assault by strangulation, police said.
Weber was issued a $175,000 secured bond, while Cuevas was issued a $150,000 secured bond. They are scheduled to appear in court Oct. 29.
Both the suspects and the victims are students at Appalachian State University, Le Beau said. Watauga Democrat does not identify victims of sexual assault.
The women were taken to Watauga Medical Center for treatment, and police are working with ASU staff to take care of their needs, Le Beau said.
Le Beau said heavy alcohol or drug use was not a factor in the incident.
"If there was alcohol involved, it seemed to be minimal," he said.
