Two injured in wreck Wednesday on U.S. 421 South

by Kellen Moore

Two men were injured after a wreck just before 2 p.m. Wednesday on U.S. 421 South in Deep Gap near the Wilkes County line.

Trooper David Searcy of the N.C. Highway Patrol said he was not immediately sure what led to the single-vehicle wreck, which left the white Ryder cargo van partially on its side in the ditch at a truck turn-out. The incident occurred just past a curve in the four-lane road, which was wet from rain.

The names and conditions of the two male passengers were not available, but both were conscious when they were loaded into ambulances and taken to Watauga Medical Center.

The wreck left the windshield and roof of the van crushed inward and churned up dirt and weeds on the shoulder where the van ran off the road.
