Two charged in King St. robbery attempt

On Nov. 19, a man approached a woman for directions while she was walking on East King Street, according to Boone Police Department. A second man got out of the vehicle and briefly detained the victim while attempting to rob her.
The woman was able to escape without harm, and the suspects fled in their vehicle.
The following day, the Wilkes County Sheriff's Office arrested Corey Paul Higgins, 28, of Dobson on a charge of armed robbery related to a separate incident, according to police. During the investigation, Higgins confessed to attempting to rob a woman in Boone, police said.
A second suspect, Matthew Keith Seymour, 31, of Mount Airy, also was implicated in the Wilkes County robbery and the attempt in Boone, police said.
Higgins and Seymour were charged with felony second-degree kidnapping and assault on a female, according to Boone police.
Each was issued a $50,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 21, 2014.
Boone police said in a statement that they were appreciative of the assistance from the Wilkes County Sheriff's Office and the Jonesville Police Department during the investigation.
