Towing, rezoning on council agenda

by Anna Oakes

The Boone Town Council's regular September meeting takes place Tuesday and Thursday, Sept. 18 and 20, at 6:30 p.m. both days.

The short agenda includes the consideration of a town code amendment regarding towing -- specifically, to include time limits for the release of a car that has been non-consensually towed.

The council will also consider the rezoning of four parcels on University Hall Drive off of Blowing Rock Road from B-3 General Business to U-1 University. Buildings on the parcels, including the former locations of the Appalachian Cultural Museum and the Singing News, will house ASU's Institute of Health and Human Services and its human resources department.

In closed session on Sept. 20, the council will consult with the town attorney about the handling of legal proceedings against Bank of America, about right of way negotiations for the planned raw water intake on the South Fork New River and about negotiating real property acquisition for a portion of the Coffey estate near Howard Street.
