Tenant information available

by Scott Nicholson

Usually the relationship between landlord and tenant is regulated by terms in the lease agreement.  But federal and state laws have established conditions even a lease cannot change.  If you are a renter or landlord you need to be familiar with the North Carolina Residential Rental Agreement Act (NC Gen. Stat. §§ 42-38 to 49).  Log on to the N.C. Attorney General's website at http://www.ncdoj.comfor more information and to find a link to the"Landlord-Tenant Booklet".  This document will outline the responsibilities of landlord and tenant, how to handle disputes, security deposits, and how to file a complaint.  Or contact the North Carolina Department of Justice, Consumer Protection Section, (919) 716-6000 or 1-877-5-NOSCAM.
