Suspect stopped after Boone break-in

by Staff Reports

The Watauga County Sheriff's Office arrested a 31-year-old man Monday after a vehicle matching his was seen leaving the scene of a residential break-in.

The sheriff's office received a report Monday that someone had broken into a home at 2821 Howard's Creek Road and stolen miscellaneous jewelry, collectible coins, household furnishings and a boat propeller.

A "be on the lookout" alert was issued for a white Nissan Sentra that left the scene of the crime, and patrol officers spotted a vehicle of that type on Cecil Miller Road, according to the sheriff's office.

After an investigation, officers charged Aaron Lee McGinnis, 31, of 658 New River Hills, Apt. 2, Boone, with felony breaking and entering, felony larceny after breaking and entering, and felony possession of stolen goods, according to the sheriff's office.

He was held at the Watauga Detention Center in lieu of a $15,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 21, 2014.
