SugarFest 2012 postponed to Dec. 14-16
by Kellen Moore
Sugar Mountain Resort has postponed its SugarFest celebration originally set for this weekend to Dec. 14-16.
The excitement begins each morning at 8:30 a.m. with 1994 Olympic gold and silver medalist Diann Roffe, who returns as a celebrity coach for the daily adult ski clinics.
The Olympic fame continues at 7 p.m. Dec. 14, as 1992 silver medalist Paul Wylie will dazzle crowds with his skating talent, a performance to be followed by an on-ice clinic.
Both Olympians will show off their medals and sign autographs at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 14.
SugarFest, which is coordinated in conjunction with the Sugar Mountain Tourism Development Authority, also includes ski/snowboard equipment demos, live bluegrass by Boss Hawg, a rail jam sponsored by RIDE Snowboards and Alpine Ski Center, and appearance by Sweetie and Sugar Bear.
An after-ski party and fireworks will continue the fun with food, drinks and dancing Saturday. A hot chocolate and whipped cream bar, “soup safari” and North Carolina barbecue also will be a welcome treat for those in attendance.
The special events occur in conjunction with the regular lineup of skiing, snowboarding, ice skating and tubing.
